Ants are unlike most household pests in one specific way: they run a logistics operation. That trail on your counter is a chemical route marker laid down by worker ants; every ant you see there is just a courier out foraging. The actual nest — queen, brood, the lot — is hidden somewhere else entirely: inside a wall cavity, behind the skirting board, in a planter box, or tucked into a window frame. Spray the trail, wipe it down, and by the next day there's a new one. You've killed a few couriers; the operation keeps running. The approach that actually works does the opposite — it uses their own supply chain against them. Lay the right bait, and the couriers carry it home for you.

Why do the ants come back a few days after I spray?
Spray only kills the workers on the counter — the nest itself is untouched, and the colony often just reroutes and returns from a different spot next time. Clearing it for good means bait the workers carry home themselves, not a race to spray faster than they can walk.
Can I just buy ant bait myself?
Same principle, but the details decide whether it works: matching the bait to what that species is actually after (sweet vs protein), placing it directly on the trail, and not spraying insecticide anywhere nearby while it's working. If two or three weeks pass with no improvement, the nest is usually inside a wall or there's more than one colony — that's when it's worth having us take a proper look.
Do household ants bite, and are they dangerous?
The ants you'll typically find in a Hong Kong flat are mostly a nuisance and a food-hygiene issue rather than a health risk. If a bite leaves noticeable redness or swelling, send us a photo of the ant on WhatsApp — different species need different handling, and we'll tell you whether it needs special attention.
